Facings-veneers

A veneer is a layer of material placed on the exterior side of the tooth to improve the aesthetics or the position or to protect the surface of the tooth. There are 2 types of material that are used to make a facing: porcelain or composite.

Porcelain facings

A composite facing can be built up in the mouth or fabricated in the dental lab and afterwards placed on the tooth by the dentist. A porcelain veneer is always indirectly fabricated after taking imprints. Porcelain facings are more durable and stain less than veneers made of composite, but are more expensive.

Caution

Heavily discolored teeth due to old fillings or denudations, must be restored first before facings can be placed. In addition to porcelain facings, there are also composite materials that can be applied directly to the teeth by the dentist.
