Dental implants and superstructures

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial root anchored in the bone. An implant gives the impression of a real tooth. It is made of titanium or titanium alloy and it replaces the root of a missing tooth. A dental implant is placed by the periodontist or stomatologist.

Why a dental implant?

An implant is placed to replace one or several missing teeth. When a lost tooth is not replaced, it will often lead to the displacement of the neighbouring teeth. Implants can also be placed to stabilise a removable prothesis. The overdenture prothesis can be clipped or screwed on the implants or placed on a metal bar that connects the implants

Different steps

There are 3 different steps:

  1. A scan is taken from the jaw to evaluate the thickness, consistence and condition of the alveolar bone.
  2. The implant is placed by the periodontist or stomatologist under local anaesthesia.
  3. A definitive restoration (crown, bridge or prothesis) is placed by the dentist.
